There is the power of life and death in the words by which we frame our lives! It is proven that wour hen we use positive words and expressions, we are met with happy thoughts and attract positive people and experiences. Of course, the opposite is also true. What we spend the majority of time focusing on, we bring into fruition. I have personally been profoundly affected by both a negative and a positive mindset. I liked the effects of smiling, cheering others on, encouraging people to go a little further when they feel like completely giving up. Why? Well, Project Speak Life was birthed through my personal experience as a homeless mother with a small child and a dream that would not die. I was divorced and on my second trip in a U-Haul with all of our stuff going nowhere. Frustrated, but determined, I have never been one to give up. But I decided to work harder at being hopeful no matter what difficulties would come. Oh, how they came! At one point I was walking my 2nd grade daughter to school, Monday through Friday, four miles one way, rain, sleet, or snow as they say. I believe you know that this wasn't my first bout with hardships. My mother died when I was 14 years old. I've been on my own since that time. Needless to say, it was not easy. But God, a few amazing people, and lessons I would learn from my resilient hometown community (Paducah), would become the foundation that was laid for me to stand upon so that I could withstand anything that would come. Speaking life to myself is how I have survived abuse inflected from without and from within. The years have left their scars. But I had to realize that scars are simply symbolic of triumph. Life has cut me, but the love of God and the power of positive words have healed me. How we express our experiences becomes testimonies to others. This work is simply my life speaking out loud and the arts and communication are what we use to tell our stories, sing our hymns, and color our canvasses.
The arts and culture are powerful tools in the promotion of positive self-expression, personal and corporate healing, and community building. Project Speak Life, Inc. intends to bend our opportunities into sculptures of life that excite, ignite, and give common, everyday people the opportunity to experience what is really beyond the sky! No limits! IMAGINE THAT! :)
Welcome to our world! You are a part of our family and welcome to join us in speaking life to our world! Please, take our hand and dream with us! But don't stop there, LET'S MAKE IT COME TO LIFE!
Love & Peace,
Dorothea
